  • What is BPA?
BPA (bisphernol A) is a chemical that is added to may commercial products, including food containers and hygiene products. It was first discovered in the 1890s, but the chemists in the 1950s realized that it could be mixed with other compounds to produce strong and resilient plastics. These days, BPA containing plastics are commonly used in food containers, baby bottles and other items. BPA is also used to make epoxy resins, which are spread on the inner lining of canned food containers to keep the metal from corroding and breaking.
  • Does Natural Value use guar gum in their food products?
Natural Value retail coconut products and two Food Service Coconut products that do not contain guar gum. However, we do have one Food Service Coconut Milk with guar gum.
  • What is guar gum?
Guar gum (also known as guara or gellan gum). It is used as a stabilizer, emulsifier and to thicken the textures in some foods. It has wide-ranging applications in various industries due to its thickening, emulsifying, binding and gelling properties. Caution: Guar gum is a type of polysaccharides composed from basic gluten compounds. Since it is often found in gluten products, such as bread and dough, if you have a gluten allergy it will not be possible for you to eat gum-based products without possibly having side effects. In addition, guar gum is used as a thickening agent in products such as salad dressings and egg-white substitutes. Guar gum can result in allergic side effects such as gas, bloating and diarrhea. People exposed to guar gum for long periods of time, or who work with it, may experience symptoms such as asthma and rhinitis.
  • What is ferrous gluconate?
Ferrous gluconate is Iron sulfate, a food additive when processing black olives. There are also olives without ferrous gluconate that are still black. But they aren’t uniformly black. They are kind of greyish, blackish, somewhat spotted olives. This is how olives normally look after they are cured. Which is why ferrous gluconate is added – to make them all look the same. We offer both kinds in our product line.
  • Are the Coconut Cream and Milk BPA Free?
Our Coconut Cream and Milk are Non-Intent BPA. BPA (Bisphenol A) is a plasticizing chemical found in the epoxy linings of some cans, and in many other consumer products. The internal lacquer of our coconut cans and ends were confirmed by our supplier to be FREE of BPA (Bisphenol A) in the formulation. Why do we call it Non-Intent BPA and what does this mean? Why isn’t it just BPA FREE?” Because of it’s widespread use, BPA persists at low levels in our environment (water, soil, air) and it cannot be 100% eliminated. What if the BPA was removed, what replaced it?” The linings of the cans for our retail coconut milks and creams are made from a BPANI (BPA non-intent) modified polyester.
  • Is hominy produced with lye?
No, we do not use lye. Some conventional hominy is processed with lye. Natural Value Hominy is produced with a safer and organic alternative: Nature Peel. Nature Peel is potassium carbonate and is used in place of lye to remove the skin of the corn. It is basically an organic way to achieve the same result as lye. We also DO NOT add sodium bisulfite (retains the white color). This means that our hominy is naturally more tan in color, and closer to the original corn.
  • What kind of water is in Natural Value Coconut Milk? How is it filtered?
The water in our retail coconut milk and cream, (both organic and pure) is deep well water that is processed via reverse osmosis filtration.
  • What else should I know about Natural Value Coconut Milk and Cream?
Natural Value doesn't add anything extra. The only ingredients in our retail coconut are coconut extract and purified water (deep well water purified by reverse osmosis). There is NO added sugar NO stabilizers NO carrageenan NO guar gum NO sulfites (retains the white color) Because the ONLY ingredients in our retail coconut are coconut extract and purified water, it does need a little special care: Coconut milk fat tends to solidify (and separate) at cool temperatures so, depending on your recipe, you may need to SHAKE WELL before use. How Do I Store It? Store in a cool, dry place. Shake well (if needed). Refrigerate after opening. Refrigerate any unused portion in a glass or plastic container and enjoy within three days. Do not freeze
  • Why does your ingredient list say coconut extract? What is it?
Coconut extract means we remove the husk from the coconut, puree the coconut "meat" that's left, and add water (deep well water purified by reverse osmosis). That is what our retail coconut milk is. We do not add anything else.
  • Is BPA used in paper goods plastic encasing?
No. The plastic wrapper is a #4 recycling symbol, and it is virgin, not recycled LDPE, a low-density polyethylene. BPA is in everything today...pipes, water, the air we breathe. So nothing is BPA free.
  • What is the sponge packaging made of?
Our original scrubber sponge line has packaging made with BOPP. BOPP is a popular label material made of plastic. It stands for Biaxially-Oriented (BO) Polypropylene (PP). Biaxially oriented refers to the production process that stretches the film over two directions, which makes it strong and more transparent. Natural Values has a new line of scrubber sponge made with plant-based fibers, with recycled cardboard packaging.
  • Are Natural Value Bath Tissue products manufactured with PFAS?
