Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 26, 2024

At Natural Value, our business sells groceries and home and kitchen goods. We do not buy or sell our customers' personal information. We treat our customers—and their data—the way we would like to be treated. We only collect the information needed to run our business and we do not collect or ask any third party to collect information about our customers without their knowledge and consent.

What Kind of Personal Information Does Natural Value Keep?

We collect the following types of personal information, meaning information that can be used to identify you or your household:

  • Identifiers, such as your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number. We may collect this information when you reach out to us through our contact page, choose to share this information with a member of our crew, or choose to sign up to receive the Natural Value communications and/or our e-Newsletter.

  • Internet and other electronic activity information, such as Internet Protocol (IP) address, the browser or device used to access the website / e-Newsletter, the device operating system, information about our e-Newsletter or other websites you visited that directed you to our website, and the pages on our website that you view. We may collect this information when you browse our website or read our e-Newsletter.

  • Commercial information, such as the name, and address information you share when you pay for your groceries by check at Natural Value’s e-commerce store.

Where Does Natural Value Get This Personal Information?

Natural Value collects the personal information described above directly from you. We also use select data collection technologies (like cookies) to collect the internet and other electronic activity information described above.

How Does Natural Value Use Your Personal Information?

We use personal information to better serve you and other customers by:

  • Communicating about our products and e-commerce store

  • Notifying our customers of product recalls

  • Responding to questions, requests, or concerns, and providing customer service

  • Administering contests and sweepstakes

  • Evaluating and improving our products and services

  • Protecting the health and safety of our team members, customers, and the public

  • Complying with our legal obligations

How Does Natural Value Disclose Personal Information?

To achieve the purposes listed above, we may have disclosed each category of your personal information listed above to the following recipients:

  • To companies or individuals with whom we contract to receive services. These service providers help us maintain our databases, process your payments, gather analytics, and prepare and distribute electronic communications. We require that our service providers do not use or disclose your personal information for any reason other than the services they are providing to us and do not use or store your personal information for other purposes.

  • To third parties when we believe it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, enforce our legal rights, or protect our customers or team members.

Other than in the above situations, we may release your information ONLY if you request or authorize us to. We do not sell Personal Information to third parties, nor do we share information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. The only thing we sell is groceries to our valued customers.

What Are Cookies and Tracking Technologies?

When you interact on our website, we receive and store certain information in the form of Internet “cookies.” Unlike Natural Value, you can’t eat them, and neither can we.

Cookies are stored on your hard drive in the form of a text file. They are not harmful and can help us understand how people use our website and provide targeted information about products and pricing. Most of the cookies we use are “session cookies,” meaning that they are automatically deleted as soon as you close your browser. We also may use “persistent” cookies, which do not expire when you close your browser. Don’t worry, though—you can remove them by following the directions provided in your Internet browser’s “help” menu.

Most web browsers can be set to inform you when a cookie has been sent to you and provide you with the opportunity to refuse that cookie. Refusing a cookie will generally not interfere with your use of our website. However, refusal of a cookie may, in some cases, preclude you from using or negatively impact the display or function of our website or certain areas or features of our website.

We do not use cookies or other technologies to track your surfing behavior before or after leaving the Trader Joe’s website. We have better things to do.

A couple of additional things about our use of tracking technologies:

  • Third Party Analytics. We use third parties, such as Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics, to evaluate the usage of our website. We may also use other analytic means to evaluate and improve our website and your experience. These entities may use cookies and other tracking technologies to perform their services. You can learn more about how Adobe uses this information, here, and Google, here.

  • How We Respond to Do Not Track Signals. Some web browsers incorporate a “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) or similar feature that signals to websites that a user does not want to have his or her online activity and behavior tracked. If a website that responds to a particular DNT signal receives the DNT signal, the browser can block that website from collecting certain information about the browser’s user. Not all browsers offer a DNT option and DNT signals are not yet uniform. For this reason, many digital service operators, including Natural Value, do not recognize or respond to DNT signals.

What Rights Do I Have Over My Information?

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights under applicable U.S. state privacy laws concerning the personal information we collect about you, including:

  • Right to Know. You may have the right to request information about the categories of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources from which we collected the personal information, the purposes for collecting the personal information, and the categories of third parties with whom we share your personal information. You may also have the right to obtain copies of the specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.

  • Right to Delete. You may have the right to request that we delete certain personal information we have about you, subject to certain exceptions.

  • Right to Correct. You may have the right to request that we correct the personal information we have about you that is inaccurate.

You can email us at info@naturalvalue.com, send us a letter at 1800 Terminal Street, West Sacramento, CA 95691 (Attention: Operations Assistant), or call us at 916-836-3561 to exercise the rights above. We will not discriminate against you based on your exercise of your privacy rights. Just to be clear, we don’t tolerate discrimination of any kind, ever.

When you request to access or delete your information, we must verify your identity to safeguard your personal information (always our aim). We will ask for your name, e-mail address, and/or phone number to match against any information in our systems. You can also submit requests through an agent that you have authorized in writing to act on your behalf. Your agent will need your written and signed permission that they are authorized to act on your behalf. As explained above, your agent will also need to provide information verifying your and their identity. We will still need to contact you directly to verify your identity and the request, or if any other information may be needed.

If we deny a privacy request, you can appeal our decision by contacting us at info@naturalvalue.com.

An Important Note About Children's Information & Privacy

Our website and marketing are oriented towards a general audience of customers and not towards children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected the information of a minor and are not required to retain it for legal purposes we will promptly delete it.

What About Links to Third-Party Websites?

Our website sometimes provides links to websites operated solely by third parties that are not under our control. This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of such third-party websites – your access and use of those third-party websites is covered by the privacy policies of those third parties.

Marketing Opt-Out

If at any time you do not want to receive our communications and/or e-newsletter, you can update your preferences on our website or select the “Unsubscribe” option at the bottom of our e-newsletter.

Okay, Natural Value—How Safe Is My Information?

We are serious about how we protect and retain your personal information.

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that your personal information is protected. We have security measures in place that are designed to prevent unauthorized access or misuse of your personal information. It’s the kind of protection that we would want if we were surfing the web on another site.

We retain your personal information for only as long as we need it to provide our products and services, operate our business, and comply with our legal obligations. When we decide how long to keep your personal information, we keep in mind the nature and sensitivity of the information, the potential harm from unauthorized use, the reasons we collected the personal information, and our legal obligations.

While we do take steps to protect your information, we encourage you to also take precautions to protect your personal information. For example, please be careful when sending us personal information by e-mail, as e-mail is not always a secure means of transferring information.

Changes In Our Privacy Practices and Commitments

We continue to monitor and improve our policies, therefore our policies will continue to evolve. As we implement new practices and services that impact this policy, we will update it, and any changes will take effect upon posting. We encourage you to refer to this page for our most current policies and practices.
